Product Description

NuForce Cube | MSRP $79 $49
A portable speaker, headphone amp, and audiophile-grade USB DAC with extraordinary sound.

The NuForce Cube is engineered to be your all-in-one mobile audio center. If you want good sound wherever you go, then you'll find it an amazingly convenient and easy to carry companion. In one tiny cube-shaped enclosure, we have united a quality headphone amplifier, high performance speaker, and audiophile grade USB DAC. Whether your music source happens to be a computer, cell phone or other portable music device, the Cube can accommodate them all while significantly improving their sound.

Nuforce USB Audio devices are designed to work with x86 architecture.  Tablet devices running Windows 8 (RT) are not supported.

Speaker

You can hear NuForce’s experience in high-end audio electronics--along with a very high-quality speaker driver--in Cube's superior sound, which blows cheap plastic, low-quality portable speakers out of the water. With the Cube, listeners no longer have to sacrifice great sound for portability. Despite its small 2” cube frame, the Cube offers audio detail, depth and dimension other portable speakers simply aren't designed to deliver. You'll hear the character of your favorite singer’s voice, the clarity and fine details of the musical instruments, the squeaky floor in a horror movie, or the subtle rumbling of the race car engine.

USB DAC

The Cube’s USB digital-to-analog converter (DAC) accepts digital music directly from the computer and bypasses the computer's on-board DAC, which are often low-quality and result in compromised sound, to offer a major improvement over the sound quality.

Headphone Amp

The Cube’s finely optimized amplifier circuit takes the audio to a new level, providing plenty of power to drive even the most power-hungry set of "cans”. It helps ensure that the headphones provide all the clarity, detail and power they're designed to deliver.

Note: If you use headphones primarily for music listening, consider the uDAC-2, which has a higher-performance DAC and headphone amp than those of the Cube Speaker.

  • A built-in rechargeable lithium battery extends your listening enjoyment for up to eight hours of continuous playback. Battery can be recharged using standard USB charger (not included with Cube) or computer USB port's power.
  • USB DAC (16bit, 48kHz)

  • A special adaptor for the iPod Nano is available. With the adaptor in play, the duo becomes one of the world's smallest, high-quality music systems.

  1. I love the Cube

Posted by Mark Heineking on 22nd May 2013

Long battery life. Perfect for podcasts on the iPod and easy to carry around with the iPod. Massively improves the sound of my Macbook Pro (with or without the USB feature), which isn't even close to being loud enough sometimes. iPod lossless sounds better than on the comparable Jam Box. Wonderful. Very much worth it.

  2. Great portability and functionality

Posted by Peter P. on 22nd Aug 2012

So ever since I've had my laptop, the audio from its so called "speakers" has always underwhelmed me. First off, I could barely make out what people were saying when listening through the speakers, let alone be able to enjoy music. So I came across the NuForce Cube and thought it would be a great solution.

    Inputs:
    USB from a PC
Stereo mini from a portable device

    Outputs:
    The speaker of course
    3.5mm stereo output for headphones

Well, after 3 weeks with the Cube in my system, I can very safely say that I am very happy to have it in my setup. I can now watch YouTube videos and not have to miss much of the audio. Netflix movies are now more enjoyable and I can have music on in the background when not listening to headphones. I'm amazed how such a little unit can give such big sound.

he other added bonus, is for poolside listening; all I need now is my iPod Classic and the Nuforce Cube (+ my LOD) and I've got hundreds of albums at my finger tips for playing outside. Now it doesn't sound like my home theater speaker (with 6.5" woofers), but again for the size and portability that this unit offers, its still a worthy option. The bass response is quite good for a unit of this size, but it does roll off at around 80Hz, but again when considering the size of the unit (around 2.3" cube) it is understandable. The mids/treble are quite clear and if you don't have much desk space (like I do) for speakers or want to take a portable speaker outside on a picnic, in the backyard or by the pool, you would be very hard pressed to find something better.

As an added on bonus, the Nuforce Cube also has a headphone out.

This is a great little DAC/Headphone amp as well. It sounds very clean with deep taught bass, nice and full mids and very well extended treble. The imaging is quite good too. But from memory, I did prefer the Nuforce uDAC-2 when used with headphones/IEMs. The advantage with the Cube is that it's an all in one solution in a very small package. Power wise, it was surprisingly able to drive my HD800s to very loud levels. It did sound better than out of my laptop audio output or my iPhone/iPad directly. Given the multitude of functions that this little unit provides, good sound quality (especially for the size) and with the reasonable asking price of only $119, I think NuForce has a real winner here.

  3. Very good and powerful speaker for this size!

Posted by Klaus Botschen on 23rd Jul 2012

I've already read in other reviews about the incredible sound quality and found it to be true.
However, I'm a bit disapointed with the contact quality of the 3.5mm audio cable. Additionally, the audio output level of the iPad is quite low and the Cube input sensitivity can't be adjusted. At least a small switch (high/low gain) would have been helpful to get the max out of the Cube. But, this might be because of regional output volume limitations on the iPad, at least I've read such things on ijailbreak.com, and I'm from Europe... Maybe NuForce could consider this for an european version?
Still, it is loud enough for most occasions, and I love pure sound.

  4. What an amazing little surprise!

Posted by ECJ on 12th Jul 2012

I purchased the Cube to serve as a travel speaker for my iPhone, and am very happy with the big sound the speaker provides with rock, jazz, bluegrass, and classical guitar music. (The various EQ settings allows one to fine-tune the specific sonic profile of each type of music; the Cube is incredibly responsive.)

For a laugh, I hooked the Cube up to my iMac, and plugged my iPod Stereo into it, using the Cube as a standalone DAC. Wow. I was incredibly surprised by the improvement in the sound of the stereo. I figured that Apple's DAC would be pretty good, and there wouldn't be a discernible difference with the Cube. Wrong! The Cube's DAC was more transparent and clear. Schumann's piano music sounds crisper, Nielsen's symphonies open up... Jazz piano trios, electronic pop and guitar rock all sound better via the Cube's DAC.

As a result of music sounding better I have dropped a bunch of money on new stuff from iTunes. Dangerous...

I cannot recommend the Cube highly enough!

  5. Shockingly good sound, beautiful look

Posted by Unknown on 21st Jun 2012

I have bought a lot of portable speakers over the years and am seriously impressed with the Cube. The sound is great. I'm no audiophile so I can't comment on specifics, but it fills my hotel rooms with good sound. That's enough for me. Plus, with the blue cube, I can always spot it in a room and in my bag and will NOT leave it behind as I have with other less distinctive and dark-colored speakers. Love it.
