Product Description

NuForce U192STM| MSRP $149 $99

High performance USB to S/PDIF conversion

Powerful sound in a small, affordable package.

The NuForce U192S is a digital signal converter designed for transforming digital audio signals presented to the USB port of a computer into a coaxial or optical S/PDIF type commonly encountered in high performance digital-to-analog converters (DACs). The U192S accepts data word lengths of 16 and 24-bits at a maximum sample-rate of 192kHz, thus permitting playback of high-resolution digital audio recordings via the more common USB ports found on computers.

Nuforce USB Audio devices are designed to work with x86 architecture.  Tablet devices running Windows 8 (RT) are not supported.

Features

  • USB 2.0 audio to S/PDIF converter
  • Coaxial S/PDIF output
  • Optical TOSLINK output
  • 16 or 24 bit resolution
  • 44.1, 48, 96, 176.4, and 192 kHz sampling rates supported
  • USB-powered, no external power supply required

The above graph is a spectrogram of the jitter performance exhibited by a typical production U192S. Please note that the repeating odd harmonic spuriae of larger magnitude (residing above and below the 11.025kHz test tone) are erroneous artifacts of the test, and therefore they must be subtracted from the data set in order to derive the actual jitter performance. The true jitter artifacts are those spurious sideband components residing between the repeating odd harmonic sidebands. In light of this fact, one can easily see that all jitter components reside -120 dB below the magnitude of the test tone. Consequently, all artifacts introduced by the U192S will be below the threshold of audibility, and therefore its performance represents a level approaching near theoretical perfection.

  1. The best value on the market

Posted by Martin Fiset on 12th Oct 2012

    Hi,

I'm an audiophile ... maniac and fussy (my apologies) ... and I try always to settle for the best, by now a lot of small or big products are on the market to play HiRes files directly from the "usb" port and they can be very expensive (like Ayre or BelCanto as exemples)or not real 24-192 for some.

I did my homeworks and my set up is Asio as extractor trough the JRiver player then convert in coaxial by the "NuForce U192S High Performance USB" to the DAC.

Straightforward, and the sound is Simply Marvelous. Stop your trial and error searching, beleive me, buy that converter and the price is so good too. Thanks NuForce

  2. NuForce U192S

Posted by Wilson Gray on 26th May 2012

This is a great idea that has been beautifully realized. Before, I hadn't been able to experience to the fullest my digital music. Now, I can.
Not all computer-audiophiles are blessed with the disposable income of a Bill Gates. Some, like me, are people on fixed incomes who got into audiophilia only in retirement. IMO, the price-points of NuForce products are such that those of us who care enough to buy the very best - but can't afford to - can still make soul-satisfying purchases. And I like NuForce's black-Mac-ish design.
My complaints are trivial. The packaging is over-designed. How to get at the box and then how to get it open are not immediately obvious. And, there's no on-off switch. The USB cable has to be removed in order to shut the apparatus off.
