  1. Smaller than expected, but with the sound I expected!

Posted by Unknown on 9th Dec 2011

Extremely well built and unbelievably compact, the podio is fantastic. It's roughly twice as loud as an iphone or phone with built in speakers, however way more clear. Also, the fact that it has a lithium ion battery that lasts roughly 8 hours, which saves your device's battery, is perfect for people on the go.
Anyways, this is not a review by nuforce, who doesn't even make the device. It's made by Agios from Taiwan. Kudos though to Nuforce for distributing it in the US and for choosing a truely quality product.

  2. sounds real

Posted by Mark Kirby on 5th May 2011

I like things that are exactly as advertised. Previous experience with an icon mobile let me know nuforce makes a high-performing product at a good price.

I'm using this for a poetry-reading group, readings downloaded from Poetry magazine's website. Clear full-range voices from a hi-fi system I can fit in my pocket and share.

This one's for my wife's birthday. She teaches Kundalini yoga and other exercise, mostly one on one. Portability squared and excellent sound are the deciders.

  3. high quality small speaker for travel

Posted by David I. on 5th May 2011

The Podio has excellent sound quality for it's small and lightweight size and is a pleasure to combine with iPad, iTouch or other mobile device. Overall excellent value. My main suggestionn is that it would be nice to have a flexible "putty" come with it to make it easy to set up in different environments, rather than having to track this down separately. (order ID 1850)

  4. surprising sound for its size

Posted by Unknown on 25th Apr 2011

The Podio is a well built, easy to carry speaker that produces surprisingly good sound for its size. The speaker has pleasant highs and enough mid-bass to make music sound complete. Small changes in placement can make a big difference in the sound but these are easy to try. Overall an excellent product at its price point.

  5. Podio

    Posted by S E Mason on 24th Apr 2011

Primarily used for talk radio on my laptop. It does a great job for radio! Have tried it for music and just not a fan of music on a single speaker, although it is decent.

  6. Excellant portable speaker for iPhone

Posted by Charles Jones on 6th Apr 2011

The Podio offers a great way to open up the soundstage of your music on the iPhone, Beautiful midrange, satisfactory highs, and limited low range describe the sound from your iphone. All of this with a small footprint!

  7. Podio is a compact portable speaker that extends the iPad's sound nicely.

Posted by Larry the HeadphoneAddict on 27th Mar 2011

My kids and I like to watch movies with my iPad when we are out and about and waiting between activities, and we're always having to cup or place a hand behind the built-in speaker's opening in order to try to project the sound outwards toward the viewers. In most cases the audio through the built-in speaker is not loud enough and we can't enjoy what we're watching unless it's very quiet around us.

The Podio is the first pocket-sized speaker we've tried that actually sounds better than the iPad's built-in speaker, which itself is usually better than my iPhone's speaker. I have three other cheap headphone jack type speakers that don't sound very good, and have poor build quality - only one still works. I like that it's small enough to actually carry with us. I still have a slightly larger Altec Lansing mono speaker with a similar concept, but it's too big for a pants pocket and doesn't sound any better - plus I have to keep feeding that one expensive AAA batteries. That typically sits in a "gadget bag" in the trunk of the car but never comes out.

Sound quality of the Podio is not Hi-Fi and there isn't any really deep bass, but it's very acceptable for movies and not bad for music either. It's still easier to hear the bass-line with this than the built-in iPad and iPhone speakers. Placement of the Podio on a table can change the sound, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse depending on how far from the edge you place it, but often using reflections of the sound off a surface will help distribute the sound better.

We just got back from spring break vacation, and the Podio was the only external speaker we took with us. With playing five full-size movies and a couple of albums during the week the battery lasted the whole time on one charge at moderate volumes.

It comes with a 3.5mm audio cable to hook up to a headphone jack, and volume is controlled on the source device. The same 3.5mm jack is used to charge the Podio with an included USB to 3.5mm cable. Which is kind of clever, except I worry that some clown might accidentally plug it into some other 3.5mm jack and send 5v into the wrong device.

The only changes I would make would be to put a volume control on the device so that we could connect it to a docked Nano or touch, and maybe to have a separate port for charging so that the Podio could stay plugged into power and music at the same time without running down the battery. And it would be nice if in the future if they would come up with a "master" unit, a Podio with stereo input and and either a left or right output, so that you could connect an original Podio to it's output and get stereo sound with the two units combined.

Overall, even as a mono speaker I give it a thumbs up for a very portable decent speaker to extend the range and volume of the iPad/iPhone, and it's especially useful for people with a device that has no speaker at all.

  8. A Musical Miracle of Tubular Technology"!

Posted by Tom Sparks on 24th Mar 2011

Upon receiving this speaker, after purchasing it, I immediately charged it and awaited the audio excellence that I have come to expect from Nuforce. My first impression was a bit reserved after hooking the Podio up to my iPod touch 32 gig 4th Gen through my Icon Mobile head amp. I was expecting a little more volume. After listening at a lower sound level for an hour or so and then slowly raising the volume, I noticed it sounded much larger than it did previously. This was a welcome surprise! I have noticed with any quality speaker system, that this is the case. Our ears get accustomed to the din created by the background audio "slush" surrounding us and it tends to over-power and shadow any quality audio, at first listen, unless they are overpowering the background clutter with sheer DB levels.

Since listening to the Podio personal speaker for a few weeks now, I have come to hear them "break-in" every time I listen to them. They are tonally opening up now and it is becoming apparent that the little "tube" is out performing anything I have owned audibly at this size! The sound stage imaging and overall bass to tweeter tonal quality exudes from this "musical miracle of tubular technology"! You have to realize that this is a "miniature" speaker and that it is not comparable, as one reviewer stated, to a bookshelf speaker and was never meant to! But the surprise is in the size, "what a poet" LOL!

As far as personal, small, and compact speakers go, the Podio PS-106 out-paces it's competition by a wide margin! It has excellent build quality and looks very sleek and modern, AS WELL as holds a charge for longer than any other personal audio device I have ever owned!!

Nuforce has done it, again! Providing us, audio users, with a definite "bang for it's BUCK!" Another testament of how Nuforce is at the leading edge of BEST AUDIO FOR THE $$$! BRAVO!

  9. Love this speaker

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- Isaiah Wyner "Isaiah in Newton", March 15, 2011 on 23rd Mar 2011

This is a fun little speaker. It's solidly made, looks great, and sounds even better. I wish it offered more options for mounting or placement. Perhaps a tripod socket would be helpful or some cool little stand. Also the input jack is on the bottom so you cannot connect the speaker and have it stand on end at the same time.

  10. Great sound quality, even better size

Posted by GeoffL on 23rd Mar 2011

    4.5/5

This portable speaker is, in one word, amazing. The sound quality is fantastic compared to the stereo speakers I have hooked up to my desktop, and even the speakers on my Dell Studio XPS (like the reviewer before me). The speaker manages to fill the room without that tinny feeling, and the battery really does last an entire day before it runs down. With my current configuration (Cowon S9 + Podio speaker) you can hear my music down the hall from my office, even with the MP3 player set at vol 10 (out of 40 max). I find that the speaker sounds best when placed about 3-5 feet from the listener.

Mind you, this is no replacement for a proper bookshelf speaker unit (like a decent Klipsh) nor does it sound as well, but considering the size of the speaker, it is almost on par.

    I docked a half-point for 3 minor reasons:

    1) it doesn't come with a stand. Even a cheap plastic case would have sufficed. Instead I made my own stand out of popsicle sticks

    2) it would have been nice if the USB cable were also a data cable so that you could use the speaker like a USB speaker with a computer. A nice dual-purpose cable for audio and charging simultaneously.

    3) it does not handle deep, natural bass too well. For example when playing orchestral music, the speaker tends to lose some of its warmth when a prominent cello or bass begins playing.
