  1. Better than in consert

Posted by Math teacher Ekholm on 16th Aug 2011

I like classical music. No need to go to consert anymore.

  2. Happy Medium

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- L. Gallardo, March 30, 2011 on 8th Apr 2011

I listen to a variety of music, but I'm most partial to hip hop music. For my uses, many "good" headphones just aren't made for hip hop - highs are piercing and the bass isn't strong enough - essentially, they reveal how poor/biased the recording is. The NE-700Xs are the perfect compromise as they render hip hop excellently with rich mids and ample bass (even with DJ sets I have from the 90s, converted to mp3 from cassette tape!), yet they reward a good quality file/recording with clean, detailed highs and an excellent soundstage - all while maintaining impressive balance with the aforementioned bass. My lossless recordings of David Bowie and John Coltrane never sounded better. I have to say, the soundstage is pretty impressive, especially for IEMs. I hear things in the corners of my ears that just aren't there with my other headphones, even with some of my cans.

These headphones isolate very well too. While I'm using the smallest size ear tip, I was delighted to find that NuForce also included a pair of flange tips. Not for me, but nice to try out.

If anything, I would say that the NE-700Xs are very versatile. They smooth over relatively poor quality recordings, but do justice to your lossless files as well. They can handle all the party music while still keeping (more than) a foot in the door of audiophile territory.

I can't even say that my pair are burned-in yet, but I'm already raving about them. If/when my NE-700Xs settle during burn-in, they only become better. At $65 you can't go wrong, either. Bravo, NuForce.

  3. Love My 'Silver Bullets'

Posted by Amazon Customer Reivews-- Shane Smith, March 26, 2011 on 8th Apr 2011

Having also owned this product's predecessor, the NE-6, I was able to make a direct comparison between the two. Since most people read these reviews to decide whether or not to buy their first Nuforce headphone or upgrade from a previous Nuforce, I'll answer both questions.

Question 1: "Should I buy these? I've never owned Nuforces."

I own headphones spanning in price from under $50 to around $1000. There's a law of diminishing returns with headphone sound quality, however--while a $60 headphone is likely to sound much better than a $30 one, a $600 headphone is not necessarily as drastic an improvement over a $300 one. For the headphone buyer on a budget who is looking for the best possible sound for under $100, you've found your headphone. These have great, tight bass (almost a little too much at times) and offer very refined mids and highs for their price range. They are also well-built and likely to serve you well for years. I've owned a lot of sub-$100 headphones, and these are about the best.

Question 2: "I have the NE-6/NE-7M, etc. Are these worth the upgrade price?"

The greatest improvement I noticed going from the NE-6 to the 700X was in the mids. I feel that the improved drivers offer better clarity, tightness and realism in vocals and midrange instruments. The bass quantity and quality seemed about the same to my ears (pretty substantial and tight for this price range, but borderline flabby on certain songs), and the highs were perhaps a bit cleaner and less tinny. I consider the price increase over the 700X's predecessors to be justified when the improved sound and build quality are taken into account.

In conclusion: whether you're upgrading or new to the Nuforce family, these are a great buy.

  4. Stellar

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- iROK, March 18, 2011, on 8th Apr 2011

    Pros:
-AMAZING sound quality. I owned a set of the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone. I thought those were good until I started listening to these guys. I went back to the Ultimates and did and ear to ear comparison. These makes the Ultimates sound so hollow in comparison. It's stunning. The highs and mids compliment each other very well.
-The bass is truly amazing on these. When I first tried them out, I was literally overwhelmed with bass. After about a 15 hour burn in, these guys are much more balanced. The bass is still there, but it's now MUCH more balanced. I think what really caught me was the fact that when there was a bass tremble, I could almost FEEL it around my nose and forehead. It's incredible.
-They are very nice looking and discreet.
-The construction quality is very nice. The wires connecting to the speakers do seem a bit thin though.

    Cons:
-I may have oddly shaped ears, but the sharp edges do hurt if worn a certain way. The cone earbuds keep this from happening, but the rubber on those are a bit irritating to my ear canal.
-There is a bit of microphonics (although, nothing compared to the Ultimates), but if you wrap them around your ears once it's not so noticeable.

    Conclusion:
I hate to be THAT guy, but I honestly feel I need to break the trend and give these a 4 out of 5. To me, the comfort of my headphones really impacts my experience. However, if you don't have weird ears then the NuForce NE-700X High Fidelity Earphones are pretty amazing. An EXCELLENT bang for your buck. It'd be hard to find a better deal without a sale going on.

  5. Worth giving a second chance

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- Eric H, April 1, 2011 on 8th Apr 2011

I was in the market for some new headphones after my second pair of Skullcandy earbuds died and I figured this time I would spend a little bit more to get a better quality pair. I noticed that these Nuforce NE-700x on Amazon had very high ratings and good comments, but I was reluctant to spend $65 on a pair of earbuds from a company I hadn't heard of before. For me at least, $65 is about the most I would spend on earbuds anyway. After checking around and seeing other reviews, I decided to give them a try and I'm glad I did. These sound amazing right out of the box, and like others say I literally noticed some subtleties in songs that I had never heard before. Its important to get a good seal with the right tips and the bass is pretty strong but not overpowering. I listen to a pretty large variety of music, everything from The Black Keys, Daft Punk, Foo Fighters, Circa Survive, Lupe Fiasco, and everything in between and these earbuds make them sound even better.

The tips that are included are decent and provide pretty good noise isolation, but I seemed to have to adjust them more often than I would like to keep a good seal. The earbuds themselves are a little large and the cable has some microphonics issues. When walking to class while using these I could hear a thud with every step I took transferring through the cord while I walked but its not too bad. But if you aren't moving around too much you won't notice a thing.

However, after normal use for a few weeks I started to notice that the right side sounded different. At first I thought maybe I just wasn't getting a good seal, but then I realized that it had lost volume. Even if I turned the volume up high the right one didn't sound the same and the mids and highs seemed more muffled. So, I decided to send them back, and on the positive side Amazon allowed me to print a label to ship it back and I received a full refund (within 3 days). I understand that this was probably just unlucky on my part and I probably got one of the few faulty pairs, so I'm going to give them another chance. I will update this review after I have used the new pair for a while, fingers-crossed.

  6. excellent sound/significant value

Posted by Peter Devito on 31st Mar 2011

I purchased the 700X earphones based on a rave review in the high-end audio press--and find that the review was absolutely correct.

As audio tranducers, these earphones are very transparent, revealing everything in the recording at hand, yet adding no spurious "sound" of their own. Beyond their clear, accurate midrange & upper register, these earphones are capable of deep, tuneful bass, but never sound "bass-heavy." That kind of balance is rare in this price range.

The 3 different-sized ear tips make these earphones easy to adjust for optimum personal comfort & fit.

Given their consistently excellent sound, the 700X' price is amazingly low. One of the best values in audio today. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

{planning to buy 1-2 more pairs in the coming months)

  7. Great sound and value

Posted by Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- G. Chandler on March 18, 2011 on 26th Mar 2011

I have used them for a few weeks now and can share my experience with the ear buds. I have two sets. One for my wife as well. We use them mostly for the gym when we are working out. The comfort is really good. They ship with adjustable tips which we did not need. We used them right out of the shipping box. The nice thing is they really seal out any surrounding background noise. Not noice cancelling, but very effective. The only negative is the cord noise is a nuisance if you are running. You get a bit of a rustling noise feedback when the cords are moving. Try looping the cord over your ear. It mentions this in the manual and it was fine after that. Also the cord length is a bit long. Other than that 5 stars for great sound and value for money.

  8. Truly a 5 star product

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- Ryker94, February 26, 2011 on 23rd Mar 2011

So I was in the market for a new pair of headphones after my mid priced sony's stopped working. I have never heard of NuForce beofre but after reading all the five star reviews I decided to order a pair for myself. The headphones came with a nice little cloth bag, and 4 pairs of spare ear buds (S, M, L XL). I am truly amazed at the quality of the build of these headphones - Five star quality. The sound of these little gems is astounding. I have never had a pair of headphones that allow all the highs, mids, and lows come through the headphones just perfectly. The base is very strong but not overpowering, the mids are crisp and the highs are just right. I am hearing new things in my music that I have never heard before and its amazing. Bottom line...these may be the perfect headphones. They are way under priced in my opinion for the quality of the build and the quality of the sound. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for a five star pair of headphones.

  9. Ridiculously good, quite sensitive

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- Matthew J. Lau, March 5, 2011 on 23rd Mar 2011

I've held off on writing a review for my nuforce 700x headphones for about three months. Since then, they've been burning in.

While I don't consider myself to be an audiophile, I listen to a variety of music (vintage rock, indie, hip hop, and jazz). I'm also picky enough about acoustics to build my own guitars.

    Pro's:
+ These phones don't really need special treatment. They sound great to anything amped or unamped.
+ They're built quite tough, despite their svelte looks.
+ They are very, very cheap for the quality that you get.
+ Did I mention that they sound *amazing*? notes on below.

    Cons:
    - I don't like to be a walking billboard for nuforce.
    - These headphones are extremely sensitive to the jack. If you have any play in your jack (as in my ipod touch), this can result in an imbalanced sound.
    - Buying nuforce products is extremely habit forming. If their moderately priced ne700x is this good, than everything else must be amazing!

    Overall, a strong buy.

    Subjective listening notes:
Since headphone preference is a subjective thing, I'll try to give my two cents. For a new headphone-phile, the ne-6 and ne7m are amazing for the money. They are like grado's, with a fairly flattering, rich analog sound. But they are too flattering for some recordings. For example, in Vienna Tang's live recording in Yoshi's, it renders her voice like Sarah McLoclan. In reality, her voice is airier, thinner, and occasionally slightly in between notes.

The ne-700x are a different beast. There is a very definite balance between musicality and analytical accuracy that is very rare. These provide the level of detail that my Audio Technica M50s have, but have more musicality. Unlike the ne-6 or the Grado 60, these will definitely point out bad recordings, bad mixings, and performance quirks. With my M50s, you can hear a person cough in the second row of a recording. With my ne-700x, you can hear the conversation being held behind the guy coughing.

This is highly recommended if you have good quality lossless recordings. If you don't (or don't care), you'd probably be ecstatic with the cheaper ne-6.

  10. A New Force to Be Reckoned With In The Sub-$100 Price Bracket

Posted by Amazon Customer Reviews-- Justin McBride "TheGame21x", March 9, 2011 on 23rd Mar 2011

    Introduction

NuForce has been a popular name among budget conscious audiophiles for their line of DACs and headphone amps for a long while now and has released a few decently popular low and midrange IEMs that performed well in the midrange market. Now, NuForce is taking its first shot at the higher end market with their newly released NE-700X IEMs for a decidedly midrange price.

I've been listening to a pair of pre-production samples for the last couple of weeks, comparing them to other earphones in my collection as well as simply leaning back in my office chair and relaxing, listening to music through these IEMs. So, has NuForce created a new force to be reckoned with in the NE-700X (bad pun, I know) or does it fizzle out? Read on to find out.

    Design and Build Quality

NuForce stated that they have engineered these IEMs to last and I believe them. The all metal shells feel incredibly solid without being overly weighty. Extending down from a rubber sheath around the housings is a nice strain relief, leading into a thick, very durable feeling cable, a nice metal y-splitter (no chin slider though) and ending in a very well relieved straight jack emblazoned with the NuForce logo. Microphonics are an issue when wearing these straight down and aren't totally eliminated by wearing them over the ear but I didn't find them to be a big problem overall.
    Comfort and Isolation

Being straight barrel IEMs, the resulting comfort and fit were in line with my expectations, very typical. The metal housings, while large, aren't too large to fit comfortably nor heavy enough to pull down on my ears when wearing them straight down and cause discomfort and generally didn't bother me during my listening sessions and were comfortable enough to listen to for more than an hour and a half of non-stop listening.

Isolation is average, as these are vented, like most dynamic driver IEMs. When using Sony Hybrids or Comply foam tips, isolation was increased but still nothing special. If isolation is a top priority then these probably won't satisfy you but for most users, myself included, the isolation was adequate enough to attenuate the ambient noise in my university cafeteria while listening to music at comfortable listening volumes.

    Sound Quality

Burn-in: These IEMs were given upwards of 50 hours of burn in time prior to review and, while they sounded good right out of the box (or bag in my case), they did need about a dozen hours or so to settle in to their final sound character.

This is (unsurprisingly) the area where the NE-700X really shines. These boast a full, warm and robust sound that's immediately attention-grabbing and energetic. These are a "fun" sounding pair of IEMs, no doubt about it, but they don't fall short when it comes to revealing finer details.

The low end is very prominent and surprises with its power and authority without sounding uncontrolled or bleeding into the midrange. There's plenty of impact and volume to go around but it doesn't gloss over finer bass detail. There's a nice rumble in the bass that conveys it an equally nice texture. It's a low end that doesn't compromise but doesn't overwhelm either, stepping up when called for and backing off when it needs to. It hits a nice sweet spot for me in terms of the amount of bass I want to hear from an earphone.

The midrange is slightly forward in its presentation and nice and smooth. Vocals are front and center, with instruments sitting a bit farther back in the sonic stage. The smoothness cuts down ever so slightly on overall clarity and resolution but not enough to where I'd call it a legitimate flaw. The upper midrange/lower treble almost reaches the point of being sibilant or harsh but never actually gets there which makes these a rather non-fatiguing listen. Treble is laid back almost to the point where I'd call it recessed but not quite. Finer detail is there but there isn't much in the way of sparkle.

The soundstage is actually rather deep, competing with the best earphones I've heard in that category. Lateral width is slightly above average which leads to good positioning. The thickness of note that I mentioned earlier does hamper the transparency and occludes the sense of "air" in the soundstage which does impact the perception of individual instrument separation but not too much. All in all, these are a very musical and enjoyable pair of IEMs to listen to for long periods that, despite their low end emphasis, are still well balanced in their sonic presentation.

    Conclusion

NuForce has built a very compelling pair of IEMs in the NE-700X. These IEMs are built to last, are very comfortable over longer listening sessions and feature sound quality that competes far better than its $65 price tag would suggest. Without a doubt, these are the most enjoyable and technically proficient IEMs I've heard in their price range and are an exceptional value for their $65 asking price. The NE-700X is an earphone that just sounds right to me. It's not meant to appeal directly to connoisseurs of analytical, bright or "thin" sound signatures and doesn't try to, either. Its sound signature is warm, musical and very entertaining and when combined with their midrange price, these aren't hard to recommend.
